Despite being a relatively young company established in 2012, our founders’ livelihood has always been dependent upon the trucking industry. Growing up, Rick was surrounded by the farm community and helped his father, Arthur, haul livestock, grain, and water for the local area farmers. Soon, Rick sought the bigger road and pursued hauling livestock in a semi at the age of 28. After seven years, an opportunity came to drive for a local hospital equipment manufacturer’s private fleet. After a successful 23 year career and over 3,000,000 miles of accident free driving, Rick took the leap to put that experience of safe driving, professionalism, and salesmanship to work building his own business.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Joe founded Harmeyer Transport, Inc. in 2012 at the age of 23. He put one truck and one trailer on the road hauling hogs for a local pork production company. Unfortunately, tough competition, an unprofitable business model, and limited growth potential proved tough for the young company and entrepreneur to handle. Joe closed the doors on the first chapter of Harmeyer Transport in 2014.
Just a short year later in 2015, Rick and Joe came together with a vision and a commitment. With an entrepreneurial spirit, a can-do attitude, and few good people who listened and believed in their ability, Rick and Joe established a relationship with their first new customer and once again, fired up the engines on Harmeyer Transport, Inc.
Today Harmeyer Transport has achieved steady, structured growth. We continue to foster lasting relationships and are growing our customers and industries served. Today we serve industries including food and agribusiness, metal and alloys, furniture, plastics, and manufacturing.
